Plan to apply about eight to twelve months before the start date, because districts open applications up to a year ahead, popular schools fill early, and the study permit also takes time.
- September entry: Districts usually open applications in the autumn or winter before. The Toronto District School Board lists a December 1 to mid-May window, and Vancouver accepts September 2027 applications from May 15, 2026 to April 30, 2027.
- February entry: Applications generally open the previous summer. Toronto lists July 1 to November 30 for its February 2027 intake.
- Places fill: Deadlines are not a guarantee of space. West Vancouver Schools, for example, reported 2026-27 full in all grades except limited February places in Grades 10 to 12.
- Permit time: A study permit can only be requested after the school issues its letter of acceptance. IRCC publishes current processing times by country, so check them before choosing an intake.
- Private schools: CAIS boarding schools use rolling admissions and accept applications through the year until the school is full.
Please note: Dates are set by each district and change yearly; confirm on the district's own website.
