Total budget for one year

A realistic all-in budget for one year at a public school district, including tuition, homestay, insurance and fees, is about CAD 27,000 to 38,000. Private day schools with homestay usually come to CAD 35,000 to 50,000, and boarding schools from about CAD 42,000 to 110,000 including extras. Flights and personal spending come on top.

Proof of funds for the study permit

For the study permit, families must show that they can pay the first year of tuition and living costs, plus return travel. For minors living in homestay, IRCC officers usually look at tuition plus homestay costs. Bank statements, income documents and a clear sponsor letter make the file stronger.
