Some schools and districts have pathway agreements with colleges or universities, but these give a conditional offer, not automatic entry, and the student must still graduate and meet the required grades.
- How they work: The partner institution issues a conditional offer early. It becomes firm only when the student earns the provincial diploma with a competitive average.
- Example: Ontario Tech University announced such an agreement with the Durham Catholic District School Board in 2016 for its international high school students.
- Dual credits: Ontario offers approved dual credit courses that count toward both the OSSD and a college credential. Eligibility is decided case by case by the school.
- Limits: A pathway usually covers one institution and selected programs. English requirements and any competitive program conditions still apply.
- What to check: Ask the school for the written agreement, the partner's name, the minimum average and whether it is currently open to international students.
Please note: Agreements change over time and none guarantees admission; verify the current terms with the school and the partner institution.
