Need

Why Toronto Catholic District School Board?

This board is for families who want their child to study in a big city but are looking for an orderly, values-oriented environment. The board aims to combine the city's academic opportunities with the safe, caring school approach of the Catholic tradition.

  • City: A high school experience inside Toronto, close to universities and cultural life.
  • Academic choice: Access to internationally recognized programs such as IB and AP.
  • Experience: The program has been running since 2008 and has reached about 1,200 international students.
Reasons

Reasons: what makes Toronto Catholic stand out

The board's schools aim to offer a safe and caring Catholic environment. International students benefit from the following. Which program is offered at which high school is determined at placement.

  • School network: 31 high schools that accept international students provide options in different neighbourhoods of the city.
  • IB and AP: Ambitious students can work with courses close to university level.
  • French Immersion: Because French is also a language of instruction, students can progress in both of Canada's official languages.
  • Course range: Alongside English, mathematics, science, philosophy, business and information technology, there are courses such as fashion, nutrition and carpentry.
  • Homestay matching: The board works with Canada Homestay International. Families are matched according to personality and proximity to the school.
  • Insurance: The compulsory health insurance of CAD 500 per year is included in the tuition.
  • Short programs: There are single-semester, short-term, summer camp and winter camp options. Families can first choose a trial period.

Result

Outcome: what it means for the student and family

The opportunities of a big city are offered together with an orderly school life. Parents know that their child is followed both academically and in daily life. Recognition of the diploma in the student's home country is handled by that country's education authority. A Study Permit is required for study longer than six months. A custodian in Canada is appointed for students under 17 who travel without a parent. High school study is exempt from the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL).

  • University preparation: IB or AP strengthens the application file academically.
  • Multicultural environment: The student works with friends from different cultures.
  • Regular follow-up: The values-based school structure and a matched host family give parents confidence from afar.
  • Planned start: Students are asked to arrive two weeks before the term, which allows time to get used to the school.

Who it suits and what to consider

  • Cost: Annual tuition is CAD 17,500. To this are added a CAD 400 application fee and homestay and custodianship costs that vary by provider. The cost of living in Toronto is high. The current fee should be confirmed with the school before applying.
  • Application calendar: The deadline is early July for the September term and early December for the February term. For the Study Permit process, families should apply much earlier.
  • School identity: The curriculum includes a religion course. Non-Catholic families are advised to know this in advance.
