Need

Why London International Academy?

Families who want a boarding school in a calmer, student-friendly city, rather than Toronto's crowds and costs, look at London, Ontario. The school says it is the only private boarding school in the city offering the IB Diploma Programme.

  • IB goal: Families who want an internationally recognized diploma but do not want to give up the security of the OSSD should review this school.
  • Mid-sized city: It suits students who prefer a walkable downtown to a large metropolis.
  • Flexible start: Students who want to begin at different times of the year have several intake dates.
Reasons

Reasons: features that set London International Academy apart

The school's official website and IB records show the following.

  • OSSD authority: The Ontario Ministry of Education authorizes the school to teach grades 9–12 and grant the OSSD, so graduates receive the official Ontario secondary school diploma.
  • IB Diploma Programme: The school is an authorized IB World School offering the two-year IB Diploma, so students can follow a dual pathway aiming for both the OSSD and the IB diploma.
  • 14: 1 student-teacher ratio: This is maintained within a student body of 150–200, so teachers can closely follow each student's language and subject needs.
  • On-campus residence: The residence is on the same campus as the school, so students walk to class and parents need not worry about daily transport.
  • Meal card system: Residence students receive a meal card valid at six international restaurants, so their diet can vary to suit each student's tastes.
  • Five starting points: The 2026–27 calendar includes September, November, January and May intakes, plus a July summer session, so enrolment can be timed to visa approval.
  • ESL focus: Programs are designed for both international and local ESL students, so language support is built into the academic program.

Outcome: what it means for the student and family

For families, these features mean the following.

  • Two-diploma option: Depending on academic strength, a student can aim to graduate with the OSSD alone or with both the OSSD and the IB.
  • Safe daily routine: Accommodation, classes and meals are in the same area, so the student's daily movements are predictable.
  • Multicultural environment: Students from 25 countries and cultures study together, with English as the shared language.
  • Calendar flexibility: Multiple intake periods mean a student does not necessarily lose a full academic year.

Who it suits and what to consider

  • Who it suits: Students ready for boarding, aiming for university through IB or OSSD, and preferring a small school community.
  • Fee information: The latest schedule on the school's website is for 2025-26: OSSD tuition of CAD 30,000, residence at CAD 10,000 and the meal plan at CAD 11,000 for ten months, which is CAD 51,000 in total. No 2026-27 schedule had been posted on 11 October 2026, so confirm current fees with the school before applying.
  • Location and climate: London is smaller than Toronto and winters are cold. A Study Permit is mandatory, and IRCC decides on it. Students under 17 need a custodian. High school study is exempt from the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL).
